A blackbird swallowed his pride

A blackbird swallowed his pride

And sang his dawn chorus

Outside my bedroom window,

I was half awake,

But listened to his solileque

Connecting note to note,

Producing a raphsody.

He was identifying

His place,

His rights,

Their nest,

And her eggs,

Soon the chicks will come,

But for now

He sends word through his song,

This is our house,

Our home,

My family,

And I will defend it with my life.
