I came across a snail on my walk by the canal

I came across a snail

On my walk by the canal

Tucked into an outer leaf

So snug and so secure

That I thought it was asleep

I opened the blanket of the leaf

Admired the courage of this little thing

That came to such an outward place

Did it blindly amble here

Or was it on its path

I did not wait around to see

What it would do when it awoke

But when I returned

The snail had gone

From the leaf high in the tree

And I believe a guiding hand

Brought it down that lofty place

And sent it on its way

House and all.
