It is easy to lose the head in politics

It is easy to lose the head in politics

Send the wrong message to the brain

Take offence about the simplest things

A word misplaced

A slight of hand

A wrong line on a footpath

Getting even made into a pastime

Putting rebukes into the dark chambers

Pulling on them

Sending rebukes through time

Remember the Canal Bells ring through weeds

Growing through nettles

Wash the mind with Spring waters

Soft waters from the Wicklow Mountains

And start again with a pure spirit

To walk an uneasy line of virtue.
