Mother Blackbird

                                     Outside in our garden

Mother blackbird

Sends distress signals

Through a screeching nest

Filling the trees with fright

An intruder

A thief

A killer

She fights

And roars like a street fighter

Wings are open in battle

There can be only one winner

They are protecting their home and family

The intruder sobs its way home

Then she gently returns to their chicks

And he climbs to the highest branch on the tree

And sings the Ode To Joy

Beethoven would be proud.
